November 2010. Details hier.
Applications for the Bernhard Rensch Prize for Biological Systematics of the GfBS
The Bernhard Rensch Prize is being awarded annually by the Society of Biological Systematics (GfBS, Germany) to a young scientist who has demonstrated exceptional work in any area of biological systematics. The award was launched by the GfBS according to a suggestion by the late Prof. Dr. Ernst Mayr, an honorary member of the GfBS, who also helped underwrite the endowment for the prize with a generous contribution. The prize honours the lifelong work of Bernhard Rensch, one of the founders of the 'New Systematics'. All applications must be received by 1 November 2010. Details here.

- MASTER COURSE on Diversity and Evolution of Plants at Uppsala University, Sweden, January 2009. We will study plant diversity from a phylogenetic perspective and thoroughly discuss issues like molecular systematics, tropical utility plants, threatened diversity, ”evolution at work” and concepts like endemic and alien plants. The course includes a field trip to Tenerife largely subsidized by the department. There you will start your own project that will be completed in Uppsala with a PhD student or researcher from the Department of Systematic Biology as supervisor. The course is free of charge! There are no tuition fees and no registration fee. The Tenerife excursion is subsidized by the department (the students are required to pay only 300 EUR). More information, the application form and instructions can be found at http://www.ibg.uu.se/en/courses2/1BG316E/index.html (don't mind when there is only a date from 2007, the course is held regularly every January.
