GfBS Gesellschaft für Biologische Systematik

Jahrestagung der GfBS 2019

20th Annual Meeting of the Gesellschaft für Biologische Systematik (Society for Biological Systematics, GfBS)

How collections can inform about the drivers of global change: climate change, habitat change, pollution, or invasive species

During the past 300 years, humans have hugely impacted their environment. Zoological and botanical collections, with their usually precise temporal dimension, provide otherwise scarce time series crucial for documenting change over these centuries. The sheer size of the European natural history collections, their increasing digitization, the possibility of sequencing DNA from preserved material, and new tools, such as 3D CT scanning, are transforming old specimens into invaluable (even unique) resources for understanding phenotypic or genetic change. The 2019 GfBS meeting will highlight how collections can inform about the drivers of global change: climate change, habitat change, pollution, or invasive species. Besides two World-leading invited speakers, contributed talks on all aspects of biological systematics are welcome, but priority will be given to contributions matching the meeting’s overall topic.
